If you are researching about an AC in order to buy one you are sure to be flooded by a huge number of brands all claiming to be the best, each coming with several AC models with a different set of features and technologies.
Little wonder then that people buying ACs are often perplexed when it comes to figuring out which AC brand to buy.
If you thought that you would make up your mind on which is the best brand based on reviews found online, you are likely to be disappointed.
Almost every brand has plenty of negative feedback about it. This, of course, contains some planted opinions or reviews by vested interests.
In fact, usually, the number of negative feedbacks surpasses the number of positive ones. This is caused by the tendency of people of not recording and sharing their experience of the AC brand when the experience or the outcome of the brand interaction is a positive one.
But people are more likely to go on record to share their bad experiences with AC brands. These unpleasant experiences often take place not because the brand is bad but because the user had set an abnormally high expectation from the brand.
This expectation might relate to both the product as well as the service and support. It is difficult to create a buying guide for AC brands in India. Instead, we will stick to the tried and tested AC buying guide which should prove to be equally if not exactly of more use.
We Highly recommend you to read the AirCon Buying Guide at the end of this article to get in-depth knowledge about latest aircon technologies and tips on making an informed decision about which product to buy for your needs 🙂

Among the various choices that you will face while buying an AC, perhaps one of the simpler ones is whether to opt for a window or split AC. The eventual decision is decided by the layout and size of the room you want to cool.
If you are thinking of split models you will have to take into account also what do you have enough room outside where the outdoor unit can be installed. If it is likely that the AC is going to be reinstalled in another place sometime later then Window ACs should be the option, you turn to.
If this is not the case and you have enough space outside the room to install the outdoor component of split ACs then this AC type is for you.
You might have noticed the argument presented above that provided you have enough room go for split ACs. This advice has two solid reasons backing it. Split ACs make minimal noise and also you are spared of the trouble of creating a big hole in your room.
While Split ACs blend into the room décor better it is a myth that it is better for cooling too. ON the contrary both split and window ACs are equally adept at cooling the room. But rooms with split AC variants cool down faster as the air opening is wider allowing to throw more air to the room vis a vis window ACs.
Installing upgraded versions of split ACs are vastly easier than their window counterparts.
It is absolutely essential that you buy an AC that has the right tonnage amount.
It is often found that users end up buying ACs with higher tonnage than what they actually need. This is not at all healthy as extreme room temperatures tend to be harmful to the people inside it not to mention the higher amounts of power consumption.
Conversely, if you end up with an AC that has a lower amount of tonnage than what is required by the area you want to cool then you run the risk of incurring far higher electricity bills as the appliance has to work longer in order to give satisfactory or required
Figure out the area of your room floor. Then divide the number by 600 or six hundred(in words) and you arrive at the AC capacity. You are not done just yet.
Add 0.5 ton for every 5 people that are going to be present in the room. Keep in mind that this calculation is in no way foolproof. Consult the below table for a better requirement indicator:
Up to 100 sq. ft
Up to 100 sq. ft
Up to 150 sq. ft
Up to 250 sq. ft
In addition to the recommendations laid down in the table above, in locations that are subject to extreme natural temperatures or places where summer temperatures cross the point of 40-50 degrees Celsius it is advisable if not absolutely required to go for an extra 0.5 tonnage in order to enjoy optimum and effective cooling.
There is a really, really big and fundamental difference between normally star rated AC and Inverter ACs. The latter has been specially designed to function at variable voltage conditions. Not only that they also eat up far less energy as voltage when the use is regular vis a vis ACs with normal stars.
So, you can go ahead and buy a 2- or 3-star inverter AC and there is no need to wait in order to afford a budget for a model rated at 5 stars.
This type of AC when first turned on consumes full rated power only for the beginning few minutes. Then the consumption of voltage is on the downward slide until it reaches 1/6th of the rated consumption of power of the AC.
This advantage in power consumption, it must be kept in mind, will take place only if the temperature is within the 22-28 range. Ordinary ACs do not have any such features and all in all Inverter ACs cut down on energy bills a lot more. Nowadays even Inverter Window AC models are being launched in the market.
The first thing that should be made clear is that it is not only aluminum but rather aluminum alloy which is significantly sturdy. Another myth which I feel must be busted in this context is a general perception that aluminum alloy condenser lifespan is significantly less.
There plenty of instances where aluminum alloy coil powered condensers surpassed the lifespan of copper coil AC condensers. But the question remains, considering the way things are today which should I give preference to.
My personal advice would be copper coils however as they offer better capacity for transfer of heat.
They are also maintained easily and can be repaired with ease. Granted the cost of such ACs are more but still, copper coils are to be preferred unless you are running out of the budget and decide to opt for aluminum alloy coils.
ACs are full of features that first-time buyers are scarcely aware of but really feel their need while using them. Some of the essential such features that you should be aware of are as follows:
