Buying Camera Based on Type
An image sensor or imaging sensor detects and conveys information used to make an image. Both types of sensors capture light and convert it into electrical signals. CMOS sensors are cheaper in cost and hence are used in cameras for still photography.
They also have lower power consumption. Nikon D3400 Digital Camera, Canon EOS 1500D Digital SLR Camera and many use these types of sensors and hence the cost of a DSLR camera can be kept low.
CCD sensors are used for high-end broadcast quality video cameras, however the cost also goes higher. Each cell of a CCD image sensor is an analog device and it finally amplifies the output.
The way the amplification happens is like a chain reaction in a nuclear reactor. When light strikes the chip, the charge in each photo sensor is passed on to the nearest line of pixels till end. And thus since the image quality is enhanced, the cost of this sensor too is higher.

Understanding the DSLR Technology
DSLR stands for Digital Single Lens Reflex. Since these cameras are digital, they are different from the old SLR cameras which used film rolls. In today’s fast paced world, no one has time and inclination towards getting a roll developed and then taking the photo prints and saving them in an album.
The photography technology has gone through a lot of revolution since the 18th century. In 1835, Henry Fox Talbot had produced durable silver chloride camera negatives and is known as the father of photography.
These images were produced on paper and he conceived the two-step negative-positive procedure, which is till date used in most non-electronic photography. In 1888, the Kodak n°1 box camera, the first easy-to-use camera, was introduced.
It had a very eye-catching tagline, "You press the button, we do the rest." In 1914, Kodak introduced the autographic film system.
In 1957 the first Asahi Pentax SLR was introduced. In 1959 AGFA introduced the first fully automatic camera, the Optima. In 1964 the first Pentax Spotmatic SLR was introduced. In 1995 Kodak DC40 and the Apple QuickTake 100 became the first digital cameras marketed for the consumers.
" In1997 the first known publicly shared picture via a cell phone was the one by Philippe Kahn.
Final Thoughts and Recommendations
Ours was a family of photography lovers and my father owned a box camera in the 1960s. I have seen those black and white pictures as a kid and since both my parents loved travelling, I have seen their pictures which they had taken in Kashmir, Shimla, Kanyakumari and many other places.
My mom insisted to buy a Kodak Polaroid camera in 1982 as she was fascinated by the feature of instant photography. I still have the pictures taken in that camera on my birthdays. The color had changed to blue or green when it was kept in the albums, but everyone loved the camera those days.
I was sad to know that in 2008 Polaroid announced its discontinuation of the production of all instant film products, as the rise of digital technology had reduced the demand.
My dad had been to Japan and got a Minolta camera in 1985. I grew up taking pictures in that camera till my adulthood. My mom had bought a Yashika camera sometime in 1987 or so which was unfortunately stolen from her bag in a Durga Puja pandal.
When I went to my college hostel in 1994, my dad gifted me a Kodak camera as the Minolta had to stay at home for my mom to use.
Till about 2003 or so, both of them functioned very well. Unfortunately the Minolta is still powering up, but the grooves which rotate when the film rotates, have worn off and I could not get it repaired. I gifted the Kodak one to my maids as she wanted to take pictures for her grandson’s birthday.
Till date she uses it occasionally even though her kids now prefer to take pictures on their mobile phones. Hence, I went for a Samsung Fino 800 in 2003 and till date I use it sometimes when I become nostalgic and want to be away from digital things.
My first digital camera was gifted by my best friend when he went to the US in 2010. He got a 10 X optical zoom 9.0 Mega pixels Canon Powershot SX110 camera for me which my kids till date use with a lot of enthusiasm.
You will be surprised to know, but in 2017, I bought a Nikon Coolpix B500 (Red one) because I was bored of black cameras. I am overall happy with the features and the Wi-Fi connectivity and the ease with which I can share the pictures which I could not do in my previous Canon one.
However, my photographer friends who use Canon EOS 1500D, Canon EOS 1300D or Nikon D5300 or Nikon D3400 Digital Camera click much sharper images than my own Nikon Coolpix B500. My next purchase will be Pentax K 5 II DSLR Camera.
When I was a kid, I used to go for drawing classes and my drawing teacher owned a sophisticated Pentax camera. Ever since, I had a desire to own a Pentax. It is a little expensive for my pocket now, but in future I am sure I will end up buying it. The data processing speed of this device is awesome. Its extra-wide sensitivity range between ISO 80 and ISO 51200 is commendable.
The full HD-proportion movie recording at 1920 x 1080 pixels almost is close to shooting a movie. It can capture seven images per second and my friends who own it are really proud of it. The built body is exceptionally solid and durable and will last a lifetime if it is handled with care. Happy clicking!!
